Our History
Over 60 years ago, Brookside Gynecology was founded by Dr. Mike Langan, an early advocate of natural childbirth. Originally known as Brookside Obstetrics and Gynecology, the practice was located at the corner of Brookside Drive and Putnam Avenue and quickly became one of Fairfield County’s premier women’s health practices.
For decades, Brookside provided continuous care to generations of women—from adolescence through family building and into menopause. Some of our patients have remained with the practice through generations.
In 2008, recognizing the growing need for specialized care beyond the childbearing years, the practice evolved into Brookside Gynecology—a new name that reflected our continued commitment to comprehensive, expert care for women at each stage of life.

Our Present
Continuing our commitment to women’s health, we made the difficult but exciting decision to relocate to a new office space, leaving our Brookside Drive location behind. Our new offices at 75 Holly Hill Lane in Greenwich are located just a few minutes away from our Brookside Drive space and designed to offer our patients greater convenience, enhanced comfort, and an environment that reflects our mission of providing exceptional, personalized care.
While we no longer provide obstetrical care beyond first trimester, we are honored to support our patients planning pregnancy and during the early weeks, guiding them to practices that align with their needs and preferences. After delivery, we seamlessly welcome women back for ongoing gynecologic care, working closely with many trusted providers in the area to ensure continuity.
Our focus on gynecologic health acknowledges that women spend most—if not all—of their lives outside of the family-building years. This creates valuable opportunities to offer forward-looking care that enhances both quality of life and healthy longevity through each stage.

Developing a trusting relationship with your daughter is one of our highest priorities. This foundation allows her to speak honestly with us—something that is essential to supporting her health and well-being.
Both our practice policy and state and federal law recognize a teen’s right to medical privacy. While we strongly encourage open communication between teens and their parents, the decision to share information is ultimately theirs.
Likewise, any decision regarding a physical examination—including whether to have one and what type—is always the patient’s choice. We will make thoughtful recommendations and explain why an exam may be beneficial, but we never pressure or guilt anyone into care.
Our goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where young women feel respected, empowered, and heard.

Several years ago we made the difficult but necessary decision to discontinue our relationship with health insurance companies. We found we spent far too much time and focus on insurance issues rather than patient care. Being out of network providers has allowed us to spend the necessary time and focus to deliver you the most comprehensive care. For your convenience, you may choose to have Brookside submit an out of network claim to your insurance. While we are eager to help you with your coverage, we always recommend that you check with your insurance prior to your visit.

In 2021, Brookside Gynecology made the difficult decision to opt out of Medicare and Medicare Advantage programs. As a result, both our practice and our patients are legally prohibited from submitting claims to, or receiving reimbursement from, these plans.
This decision was not made lightly. We believe it was necessary to preserve the high standard of care our patients deserve—care that includes unhurried appointments, personalized attention, and a comprehensive range of gynecologic services that may not be fully supported by traditional insurance models.
We continue to value our long-standing relationships with Medicare patients and offer a discounted fee schedule for individuals with Medicare or Medicare Advantage coverage. We are also happy to provide documentation for your records or for submission to a secondary, non-Medicare insurance plan, if your insurer permits.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our office.

We have found that most insurance plans — including Medicare and Medicare Advantage — will cover diagnostic testing (such as blood work, imaging, and biopsies) as long as it is performed by an in-network provider. This means that while Brookside Gynecology is out of network, the testing itself is typically covered similarly to how it would be with any other provider.
For your convenience, Brookside has an in-office relationship with LabCorp, allowing many tests to be performed during your visit. LabCorp is in-network with most insurance carriers, but we always recommend that patients confirm coverage with their individual insurance plan prior to testing.
We also understand that some patients prefer or are required to use a specific lab. Brookside is able to send specimens to a variety of laboratories and will make every effort to accommodate your preference — with advance notice and instruction.
If you have questions about lab billing or need help coordinating your testing preferences, our staff is here to assist you.

If an outpatient procedure is recommended, we will guide you through each step with clarity and transparency.
Hospital-related fees may vary depending on the facility’s network status with your insurance. While we have not encountered issues with hospital coverage to date, it is always important to review your individual plan at the time of scheduling. You will be responsible for the physician’s fee, which Brookside Gynecology will submit to your out-of-network insurance plan, if applicable.
If you prefer or require care within your insurance network, we are happy to refer you to a trusted local surgeon who participates with your plan.
Our office manager is available to help you navigate your options and determine the best path forward—medically, logistically, and financially.
