Laparoscopy
Laparoscopy is a procedure used to detect and treat many health problems.
Keyhole, Minimally Invasive Surgery
A thin, lighted tube—known as the laparoscope—is inserted into the abdomen through a small incision. Using a laparoscope, a small camera, the doctor is able to see the pelvic organs. If a problem needs to be fixed, other instruments may be inserted either through the laparoscope or through other small cuts in your abdomen.
Laparoscopy is often done as outpatient surgery. The patient is usually able to go home the same day, after recovery. More complex procedures, such as laparoscopic hysterectomy, may require an overnight stay in the hospital. General or local anesthesia may be used depending upon the procedure.
Now available are single incision Laparoscopic Surgery, available for many patients including Hysterectomy!
